Invitation Wording:

The wording of your invitation depends on a number of different things such as whether you and your fiancé are paying for the wedding yourselves or if your parents are paying or both sets of parents are paying. Wording can also be affected by your parents marital situation and if any of your parents are deceased. You can include verses, poems or quotes as an introduction before the main invitation wording such as “On this day I marry my best friend” or “A life of sharing, caring; A love of endless giving together”.

If you are including reception information on your invitation and the reception is at a different location from where the ceremony is being held, then the reception information should be listed in the bottom left-hand corner of the invitation. If the reception and the ceremony are taking place at the same site, then reception information is included in the body of the invitation.

Additional Wording Tips:

  • If the groom has a professional titles such as doctor or military rank, the title should be used with his name on the invitation. A bride’s title is not usually included unless she is issuing the invitation herself.
  • For military ranks of captain, lieutenant or above, the rank title precedes the name on the invitation. All other ranks are listed on the line below the name.
  • Notes or messages should not be handwritten on the invitations.
  • Do not include information such as wedding registry or cash gifts preferred with your invitations.
